Colophon

HELLO, good evening and welcome to issue 46 of Octopus's Garden, the subzeen with its very own stand-by calls. An html version of this subzeen is available on the Web at http://www.manorcon.demon.co.uk/octopus/index.html. It's also sent to the TAP mailing list, which you can join automatically by sending the message 'subscribe tap' to majordomo@diplom.org. The message 'unsubscribe tap' sent to the same address will get you off the mailing list.

Missing, presumed fed.

And double brownie points to anyone who can spot that literary reference...

Most of you will have already heard, either first or second-hand, the new about Berry Renken's computer problems. When I found out, I sent him a printed copy of the last issue of the Octopus and offerred him the chance to submit orders by post instead. I've still heard nothing, so I am going to hold both games over and appoint stand-bys, who will take over the positions if I still haven't heard from Berry by the next deadline. I very much hope that Berry will be back with us by next time, either by e-mail or normal post, but if not then the games will proceed anyway.

pre-Round 8 -- "William Rufus de Vane King" -- RR 1701 TT

Railway Rivals Map TT (Leapfrog)

Please will W. Andrew York stand-by for BLUES/blue. This will work the same way as stand-bys in American Diplomacy ; i.e. if Berry submits orders by the next deadline, then he keeps the position ; otherwise Andrew's orders will be used. (The main difference from a Dip-type situation is that I have held the game over in the meantime, as an NMR! can ruin a game of RR, not just for the defaulter, but for the other players as well.) Other players can, if desired, make their orders conditional on who controls the position, although I suspect this is less necessary than in Dip. Orders already on file for other players will be used unless changed. (This procedure is all explained in the postal house rules.) The revised deadline for Round Eight orders is FRIDAY, 7th APRIL, 2000 to Peter Sullivan, octopus@manorcon.demon.co.uk

pre-Round 7-- "John C. Breckinridge" -- RR 1702 TK

Railway Rivals Map TK

Please will Eric Brosius stand-by for BLUES/blue. This will work the same way as stand-bys in American Diplomacy ; i.e. if Berry submits orders by the next deadline, then he keeps the position ; otherwise Eric's orders will be used. (This procedure is all explained in the postal house rules.) Could you all let me have Round Seven orders by FRIDAY, 7th APRIL, 2000 to Peter Sullivan, octopus@manorcon.demon.co.uk
